Sundays at Rappahannock
Aside from the occasional meeting or breakfast at church, Sundays begin at 10 o'clock as folks gather for Bible School.
Bible School
We currently have two adult classes as well as one for children.
Lankford Class
Dean Lankford leads this class, whose lessons follow the International Studies Guide, using verses from the King James Version.
Ware-Dillard Class
Alex F. Dillard, Jr., succeeded his father, A. Fleet Dillard, in teaching this class established by Ella Fleet Dillard, Alex's grandmother. The class lessons follow the International Studies Guide, using verses from the New International Version.
Children's Classes
Mrs. Arlene Lankford leads children of ages 8 and younger in bible studies. She is often assisted by Kathy Wilbur.
Peggy Pursley teaches a class for older children.
Morning Worship
Bible School ends shortly before 11 am, and the congregation gather in the sanctuary for announcements before the beginning of the worship service.
Our services include music led by organist Beverley Erickson.
Dr. Wilbur includes a lesson for the children a few minutes into the service, when all young children are invited to join him at the front of the sanctuary.
The most integral part of the service in Disciples of Christ congregations is Communion. After some words from Dr. Wilbur, two elders bless the elements, and deacons administer communion to the congregation.
The latter part of the service is a sermon given by Dr. Wilbur. On fifth Sundays, the congregation sing favorite hymns requested by members, in lieu of a sermon. |
